SHERRILL + DAVID || ANDELOT FARM - CHESTERTOWN, MARYLAND

Maybe because there’s snow swirling around outside right now, but it feels oh-so-dreamy to step back in to Sherrill and David’s wedding weekend. Wait, nope. Snow is a great contrast and all, but this really was a wedding that was seriously magical. There was so much rugged Eastern Shore scenery, nonstop delightful details, delicious food, warm hospitality, and a charmingly huge crew of family, friends, and four-legged buddies to keep me happily snapping throughout.

There was a quick rehearsal on Friday evening, followed by cocktails and an intimate dinner provided by David’s mother.

The next day was breezy and bright, and started off with the ladies primping at the White Swan Tavern, and the gents skeet shooting, and followed with another magnificent matriarch meal - David’s grandmother held a wedding luncheon at her home.

Beyond the ride-or-die Eastern Shore sticker I peeped, I’m beyond infatuated with a wedding luncheon. Firstly, it makes sure everyone has a square meal in their stomaches, which combats the wedding hanger/fatigue that is SO real. Secondly, it calms everyone down a few notches with an opportunity to get excited before the final big I-Do’s.

On to the main event! Sherrill, who I met on the mat at Foundations Island Yoga is a Vermont native, and per everyone I’ve ever met from Vermont, she’s super down to earth and an absolutely fun human to be around. It was such a joy getting to spend some quiet moments with her between the rush of the day, she truly brought some of that good, calm energy where it was needed. Also, THOSE CURLS! And that DRESSSSS! I’m swooning, y’all.

(David, you’re handsome as all get out and you know it, but I’m just gonna gush over your gorgeous wife s’more.) Bride in a baby blue leather jacket and sunnies. UGHHH, YES! Y’all, lemme just beat this issue more like I do in just about every blog post about how much more fun your wedding day is when you bring in the little twists that are so true to who you are.

After our beachy first look, we had some time in the pastoral and so stunningly picturesque fields before we rolled out to the ceremony.

After they made it officially official, it was on to this stunning reception. The tent was a haven of mouthwatering treats and temptations and new surprises in every nook and corner. Antipastos, breads, oysters, finger foods, orange crushes (their signature drink!), and a mobile bar outside serving three types of Old Fashioneds? You were bound to find something that was to die for in this spread.

The sun cast the warmest glow just before it set while Mr. & Mrs. Blitzer were announced (y’all so totally planned that, didn’t you?) and we got well in to the dancing and toasts.

Dinner was a seat-yourself-wherever and hop around to the varied food stations to grab grub. Another delightful way to keep things flowing and casual, and so fun! With live music and a bright moon, guests danced up a storm and helped devour the many sweet treats floating around.

And with an explosion of white rose petals and cheers from those party peeps still celebrating, David and Sherrill were outta here (to keep celebrating off-site!). Seriously, I told you this was magical - be sure to check out the link below for more photos of the wedding weekend. So many congratulations to these fabulous humans! -MEJ

SEBASTIÁN + KATIE || EVANSTON, ILLINOIS

What are the essential components of a wedding? Poll the audience, and it usually comes back to the essentials: some pretty dang dapper threads, carefully curated accessories and blossoms for bursts of color, rings as symbolic as the ceremony that ties two loves in to one entity, and some sort of a feast to mark the occasion.

While these things may be what pops readily in to most minds when they think of nuptials, they pale in comparison to the greatest thread that binds and brings together on a wedding – family. Whether by blood or by choice, the people who lift up and laugh with and love a couple on this momentous day are what truly make a wedding special.

1img-006-4527.jpg

True, a wedding is technically about the I-Do's between just two, but if you stop and think about it, a wedding is celebration that is full to the brim of the many various relationships cultivated through highs and lows, over great distances and times and generations.

I am beyond honored to count myself as part of the family that got to rejoice with Sebastián and Katie on this beautiful day. It's not often that I get to hop on a plane with my momma and my partner to both celebrate and photograph a wedding, and it’s even rarer that I get the incredibly strong perspective and appreciation for family and community that this event impressed upon me.

1img-021-2550.jpg

As with every snapshot, there was so much to be told beyond just what was happening on this day. In my retelling, two great chapters should be touched upon before I present a host of photographs.

1img-022-2552.jpg

The first is both the love and the loss of Katie’s late father, the most rad Reverend Richard Adams. A prolific writer, musician, and a man most dedicated to outreach programs, I had the great pleasure of meeting him in 2016. He threw out fabulously punny jokes and showed off his art collection despite fiercely battling terminal lung cancer. Rev. Adams died in early 2017 and was interred at St. Augustine’s Church where Sebastián and Katie were married, but his presence on this day would be indelible no matter the proximity.

1img-015-4531.jpg

The second is one that’s enormous to even comprehend, let alone write about. It’s certainly strange to condense such a devastating experience for many in to just a few sentences, but Sebastián’s relatives and friends in Puerto Rico experienced incredible loss in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria last year. Because of such limited reaction and assistance through the government, S&K made the choice to use their wedding savings to provide the most basic of necessities like batteries and flashlight and baby formula for their extended community.

It’s heartening to say that so much of their family - from work, from church, from near and from far - eagerly pitched in to this homegrown aid effort last year, and it’s even cooler to see things come full circle with donations of flowers and food and drink and setup and cleanup and venue and all sorts of special elements to this day.

1img-089-5227.jpg

And maybe I’m just partial because I’ve glimpsed a lot more of Katie and Sebastián’s story than with most clients I work with, but I think the smiles were just a little bigger, the hugs lingered a little longer, and the laughter rang out all the louder because of the wildly winding path that everyone walked to get to this day. Thank you guys, sososo much for letting me capture this precious and joyful chapter of your story, and congratulations, felicitaciones, and much love to my dear friends! -MEJ

1img-008-9900.jpg

That was this day. Ata and Taylor had their I-Do’s surrounded by an intimate gathering of friends and family along the Chesapeake Bay with a breeze as deliciously sweet and satisfying as was their first look.

The air (and, obviously there was a looooot of it with this amazing breeze...) was full of bubbles and laughter, because Taylor is one giggly gal and has one of the most delightfully infectious laugh.

This gang absolutely tore up the dancefloor, led by Taylor's sistersquad of our flowergirl (and former sticky-fingered sweetheart session) Isla and Karenna (our rockstar birthday babe).
