Do y’all know what church giggles are? Those laughs that are Burst-Out-No-Matter-How-Serious-Or-Focused-You’re-Trying-To-Be-Oh-God-Here-They-Come-Again? That’s Katie and Michael’s day. Scratch that, their entire wedding weekend.
It all started with a morning of scooting across Little Assawoman Bay with the wedding party with laughter echoing off the stand up paddle boards and out of the kayaks.
You know you’re in for a good weekend when your officiating priest can’t stop grinning from ear to ear and cracking jokes. We took full advantage of the evening light we wouldn’t have the next day for some dramatic portraits before heading off to a celebratory dinner.
The Big Day dawned hot and…well, just freakin’ hot. Anyone who has spent time in Rehoboth at the end of July knows that the weather can be seriously brutal, but it’s also equally vibrant and beautiful - just make sure you slather on the sunscreen! The morning was chill enough with everyone gleefully preparing for the day ahead in the comfort of climate controlled rooms.
As if the day wasn’t special enough, Michael’s family brought along along a newspaper from 50 years ago (!) marking the first moon walk, and Michael’s dad was wearing the socks he wore to his own wedding beneath a more color-coordinated pair.
And then it was time! Church giggles at the actual church were in full swing, and got progressively more intense as Katie swatted a fly out of midair at the start of the ceremony and Father Matthew told a story about not needing to jump out of an airplane because of these two.
After the ceremony, bubble were popped and we went off in search of some shade and amusing backdrops for the wedding party portraits. We also definitely took full advantage of the air conditioned and beautifully shiny red trolley - 97+ degrees in the sun is no joke!
Wedding speeches are always a big emotional stronghold for a wedding, but Michaels best man, in absentia due to deployment, dropped in via projector to give his toast to the couple that left not a dry eye in the room.
I stole Katie and Michael off for a few minutes to catch the sunset and have some quiet time to themselves, and then it was time to par-taaay!
Now, I’ve always known the Marr family can throw down. This is a crew that runs dozens of cousins deep, aunties in force, and they tear up a dance floor. Fortunately, the Kimmerleins roll with an equally crazy family tree that’s just as willing to let loose. I was impressed with the energy I was seeing, and then things got uncanny with how perfect these two groups gel when ‘Sweet Caroline’ came on, and each gathered around the corresponding family member so aptly named and absolutely belted it. Impressive, y’all.
There’s a ton more from this riot of a day, be sure to check ‘em all out below but here’s a big ol’ congratulations to this amazing couple and their families - so happy for y’all!! -MEJ
