Let me tell y'all all about the time I got kicked out of a mall by security with a former SCAD classmate of mine....
Okay, so it wasn't that dramatic or cool, but after some last minute "Hey, I'll be in Atlanta!"s with the incredibly sweet, incredibly talented Nikki Floreno, we set up an engagement session at the North Point Mall. A....mall? Yeah, okay seriously follow me on this one! Nikki is an AMAZING illustrator, all of her work makes me want to pull it off the page and squish it for it's adorableness, so of course an indoor shoot at a gorgeous carousel midday in the Atlanta 'burbs is a genius idea.
That is, until the management you'd contacted for permission is away on vacation, and the on-duty manager refused to acquiesce to our polite request. Anyways, long story short, we were asked to leave by a security guard. Punk rock, y'all. ANNNNNNYYYYYYWWWWAAAAAYYYSSSSS, Stephen and Nikki had a secondary location, which happened to be pretty amazing: book + coffee date at their local Barnes and Noble.
Nikki just wrapped up an amazingly successful kickstarter for her book Amelia and the Flying Cat, so naturally the kid's section of B&N was the perfect place to start our shoot.
And these two? Total hams. They could not stop cracking each other (and me) up!
I didn't realize how perfect a bookstore would end up being for an engagement session - we had a total field day with titles on the shelves as props.
So if you didn't pick up on it by now - these two love to laugh. Like, nonstop. So Stephen snagged a set of cups and specifically requested baristas well....do their thing. Why can I not stop cracking up at Pheven and Neeki? Like, my sides hurt.
I had such a blast with these two - even if it was a short little hangout that didn't got exactly as planned, it was so much fun! -MEJ
