"Where do you think we should shoot?" is generally a question I get asked a lot. My suggestion is always to pick a spot with meaning to it, and Megan and Tyler are going to be my textbook example why from here on out. They already had their locations in mind for their engagement session before we'd planned our shoot, and not only were they super fun and beautiful to work in, but they've also got a good bit of meaning to them.
First, we started out at the metro stop that brings them in and out of D.C. in to their neighborhood...
...then we headed off to this incredible mural that spans about half of a block. It made for such a colorful backdrop (and also afforded me the opportunity to stand on the median strip of the road and probably terrify a few drivers).
We strolled back to their apartment, and headed off to Old Town Alexandria with their pup Scout (and our professional behind the scenes dog-wrangler, Kristin).
Scout was clearly quite perturbed that we'd dragged her out of the house to not be featured in every single photograph. Sorry, lady!
Old Town is obviously a gorgeous spot to shoot for an endless amount of reasons, but the street above (Captains Row) is where Tyler popped the question.
I told these guys I knew of an awesome little bar we could go to wrap the shoot up that I'd found on my last trip to Old Town, and we weren't disappointed by the beautiful design details and deliciously rewarding pours at Daniel O'Connells. Seriously, a frosty beer after a day of shooting is a pretty magical thing, especially when it's so photogenic!
This was such a fun session, and I'm so stoked to be photographing Megan and Tyler's big day later this year. Cheers! -MEJ
