I was SO excited when Lily and Matt got engaged - I've known them since their relationship started in those awkward and joyous mid-high school years. It feels like everyone has been making the joke that Lily would someday pick up Matt's last name and become Lily Lilly.
As any prudent wedding photographer will, I continually checked the weather forecast for their big day, which was steadily looking wetter and gloomier. The big day dawned with 100% chance of rain, and about an inch and a half of accumulation expected. For a backyard wedding. Eep! I was honestly a little nervous.
Fortunately, even the serious downpour and squishy mud couldn't put the slightest damper on the day. Not only were the guests totally okay with puddle jumping, Lily had enough foresight top purchase a set of white umbrellas for us to run around outside with. And as I always say, a little cloud cover makes for great light - in this case, a lot of cloud cover made for some really beautiful softness in all the photos!
Aside from the usual awesome wedding details, Lily and Matt had a host of fun things going on, like the very Maryland meal of steamed crabs for the sit-down-eaters, as well as wood-fired pizza for those folks that wanted to snack between dancing....
...and custom Snapchat GeoTags....
...and a dedicated blind contour artist to make sketches throughout the day!
We closed the night out on one last little portrait - one that I have been so, so eager to try out for so, so long. I'm not usually someone who sets up a lot for a shot, but this involved five different light sources and laying on the ground to achieve. TOTALLY worth it!
Check out all of the photos from the big day here. Thank you so much to everyone who didn't let the rain get 'em down, and a huge congratulations to Matt and Lily on tying the knot! -MJ
